The Adrian Dragon wrestlers hosted a triangular on Friday night, February 7th. It was the final regular season event for the Dragons.
The night honored their longtime coach Bruce Loosbrock, who passed away last fall. Bruce was a volunteer coach for over 30 years for the Dragon wrestling program. Bruce was proud of Adrian Schools and was a generous donator to the school and its sports programs. Bruce’s family was presented a canvas print of the wrestling team, a commemorative plaque, and the news that the wrestling room is now “The Bruce Loosbrock Wrestling Room”.
The Dragons came out ready to do some of their best wrestling of the year. They went up against West Central and Dell Rapids, securing victories in both of these duals.
In the first dual, the Dragons faced off against West Central. The Dragons started the dual dropping the 106 match, before Brayan Anaya and Reese Morrison pinned their opponents. After having to forfeit at 126, the Dragons went on to win the remaining matches of the dual. Rilee Heidebrink, Logan Taylor, Isaac Bullerman, Cameron Wieneke, and Preston Nelson all won by fall. Logan Sherer won his match by a 15-3 major decision at 138, while Quentin Wolf defeated Zach Brown in a 7-3 decision. Jaren Winselman, Beau Bullerman, and Scot Edwards finished the dual by receiving forfeits. The Dragons took this match 67-9.
The second dual of the night turned out to be a bigger fight for the Dragons, as they took on Dell Rapids. The start of the dual would not go in favor of the Dragons, as they found themselves in a 23-6 deficit. Brayan Anaya was the lone win to start the dual at 113, defeating Carson Roach by fall in 1:53. The Dragons would start to gain momentum after Logan Sherer (138) defeated Trevon Cross by fall in 3:27. Logan Taylor and Isaac Bullerman followed this effort with a win of their own, as Taylor won his match by a 14-8 decision, and Bullerman won by fall in 4:32. The Dragons would wind up losing at 160 and 170, making the dual come down to the final four weights. Preston Nelson received a forfeit at 182, before the final three Dragons, Jaren Winselman, Beau Bullerman, and Scot Edwards all pinned their opponents. The Dragons came out on top 45-32. The Dragons will finish the regular season with a final team record of 16-6.
