Wrestlers Compete in Top of the Rock

Bullerman and Gyberg Claim Titles

The Dragon wrestlers traveled to Dell Rapids to participate in the Top of the Rock tournament last Saturday.  They were able to muster a 5th place finish as a team.  Isaac Bullerman and Dylan Gyberg came out on top of their respective weight classes to claim individual titles.

106B – Isaac Bullerman brought home the 1st place trophy in the 106B bracket, as he went 3-0 on the day.  Bullerman earned an 8-5 decision in the quarters over his opponent from Dakota Valley, before working his way to a 5-3 decision in the semis over Andrew Weiland  of Dell Rapids.  In the finals, he fell behind early, but battled back to earn a fall in the second period over Porter Jensen of Tri-Valley to claim the 106B title.

106 – Logan Taylor worked his way to a 3rd place finish, as he lost in the quarters, but battled all the way back through the wrestlebacks to claim 3rd.  Taylor’s first two matches in the wrestlebacks ended in falls, as he pinned his respective opponents from Parker and Wabasso/RRC in the second period.  He then earned a 7-2 decision in the consolation semis, before holding on for a 6-5 decision in the 3rd place bout to end his day with a win.

113 – Brandon Combs went 1-2 on the day, as he defeated his own teammate in the wrestlebacks for his first varsity win. Tylor Hix also participated in the 113-pound bracket, going 0-2 on the day.

120 – Preston Nelson went 2-2 and did not place in the tourney.  He had a pair of falls in the wrestlebacks, before getting eliminated from the competition.  Brent Hokeness also competed, going 0-2 on the day.
