Edwards Brings Home Title, Bullerman Places 4th
The Adrian Dragons had two wrestlers compete in the MN Ninth Grade Wrestling League State Individual Tournament last Saturday. The Dragons placed 9th in the team scoring portion, as 116 teams were represented in the tournament. Scot Edwards won the HWT title, while Beau Bullerman finished 4th in the 170-pound weight class.
170 – Beau opened up his tournament with a bang, pinning Isaac Omland of Osseo in 1:17. His second match of the tournament was an exciting OT victory over Justin Nelson of Bemidji. Nelson held a 6-1 advantage entering the 3rd period. Beau earned a reversal and then gave up an escape to make the score 7-4 in favor of Nelson with less than a minute to go. A takedown and two-point near fall knotted the score at 7 as time expired. Bullerman was able to takedown and pin Nelson in the OT period to advance to the semis, guaranteeing him a 4th place or higher finish. Beau lost in the semis to Lance Wagner of W/RRC, before falling in the 3rd place bout by fall to Brayden Weber of Becker.
HWT – Scot Edwards dominated his way through the HWT bracket, earning 3 first period falls on his way to the finals. Edwards wasted little time in his first match, pinning Gavin Layton of Coon Rapids in 18 seconds. His quarterfinal match took a little longer, as his fall over Isaiah Green of St. Cloud Tech didn’t occur until 40 seconds into the match. Scot faced Gerardo Maldonado of Tartan in the semis. Edwards earned an early takedown before a bloody nose stopped the match. Scot chose to start in the neutral position on the restart, making the score 2-1. Maldonado came at Edwards hard after the whistle, only to get thrown to his back and pinned 55 seconds into regulation. The win advanced Scot to the finals where he would square off against Bennet Weber of Waconia. Edwards jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the finals, and coasted to an 8-3 victory to claim the title.
