Wrestlers battle in Plum Creek Duals

The Adrian wrestlers traveled to Tracy to take part in the Plum Creek Duals last weekend, going 1-3, as they defeated MAHACA and lost to United, New Ulm, and Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

The Dragons jumped out to an early lead against the Dawson-Boyd-Lac Que Parle Valley-Montevideo United, as Jesus Anaya earned a 7-5 victory over Dain Mortenson.  Reese Morrison accepted a forfeit at 113 pounds, before United jumped on the board with a fall at 120 pounds.  Logan Taylor gave up an early takedown, but battled his way to an 8-4 victory over Sam Zinda at 126 pounds. Isaac Bullerman followed suit with a 9-0 major decision over Avery Wittnebble in the 132 pound bout.  A late reversal gave Selvin Hernandez a 7-5 decision over the Dragons’ Brody Loosbrock at 138 pounds, cutting the Dragon lead to 16-9.  A major decision by United’s Trevon Johnson made the team score 16-13, before Quentin Wolf forced over Eli Lowry to earn the fall in 1:38.  Preston Nelson scored four points in the third period to defeat Stone Irvine by a 4-2 margin, extending the Dragon lead to 25-13.  A fall at 170 and a Dragon forfeit at 182 knotted the team score up at 25 with three matches to go.   Max Lehmann put the Dragons on top with a fall at 195, before United earned a fall at 220 and accepted a forfeit HWT to claim the dual meet victory, 37-31.

Round 2 featured Adrian against the New Ulm Eagles.  The matchup was a poor one for the Dragons, as they lost by a 63-18 margin.  Jesus Anaya wasted little time with his opponent at 106 pounds, pinning Isaiah Reiser in 35 seconds.  A pair of Eagle first period falls put New Ulm up by a 12-6 margin three matches into the dual. Logan Taylor earned a quick fall over Josh Liebl at 126 pounds to tie things up at 12.  New Ulm took control of the dual with four consecutive falls, before Preston Nelson stopped the bleeding with a fall in 1:33 over Avery Hermel at 160 pounds.  New Ulm won the rest of the bouts to end the dual.

In round 3, the Dragons took on the MAHACA Tigers.  Adrian jumped out to a quick 18-0 lead as the Tigers forfeited the first three weights to Jesus Anaya, Breyer Hieronimus, and Rilee Heidebrink.  Logan Taylor extended the Dragon lead with a fall in 3:18 over Toby Messner at 126 pounds.  Isaac Bullerman accepted a forfeit at 132 pounds, before the Tigers earned a major decision and decision at 138 and 145 respectively.   Tylor Hix received a forfeit at 152 pounds, before the Tigers’ Brady Cardwell earned a fall at 160 pounds.  Preston Nelson battled his way to an 8-6 OT decision in the 170 pound bout, before the Tigers won the next two matches.  Jaren Winselman accepted a forfeit at 220 pounds before a double forfeit at HWT to end the dual with the Dragons ahead by a 45-22 margin.

The last dual of the day was between the Dragons and the SF Roosevelt Rough Riders.  Jesus Anaya earned his fourth win of the day, with a 17-7 major decision over Nolan Jessen at 106 pounds.  Breyer Hieronimus accepted a forfeit at 113, before the Rough Riders got on the board with a fall at 120 pounds.  Logan Taylor earned his fourth win of the day with a 12-6 decision at 126 pounds.  A 3-2 Rough Rider decision at 132 pounds made the team score 13-9 in favor of the Dragons.  Brody Loosbrock pounded his way to a tech fall at 138 pounds to put the Dragons up 18-9.  Three consecutive falls by SF Roosevelt gave the Rough Riders their first lead of the day by holding a 27-18 advantage.  The Rough Riders forfeited to Preston Nelson and Cam Wieneke at 170 and 182 respectively to put the Dragons up by a 30-27 margin.  A fall by Roosevelt’s Joey Otto and a pair of Dragon forfeits ended the dual with the Rough Riders on top by a 45-30 margin.

Preston Nelson was voted the OW for the Dragons, as he earned a come from behind victory and an OT decision en route to his 4-0 afternoon.
