The Adrian Dragon golf teams competed in the first round of Section 3A tournament action on Wednesday, May 24th. The Worthington Country Club was the site of the tournament and will also be the venue for the final round of play on Wednesday, May 31st. Day 2 of the tournament will determine which teams and individual golfers earn the right to advance to state tournament play.
In order for a team to move on to the second round of play, they had to be in the top four after the first round of competition. Unfortunately, neither of the Dragon teams were able to qualify for day two. Both the girls and boys team finished the first round in eighth place.
The 4 boys teams to advance to the second round were Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Murray County Central, Windom Area, and Wabasso. For the Dragons, Mitchell Veld and Brady Henning shot rounds of 101 and 102 respectively. These scores qualified Veld and Henning to move on to the second round of the tournament. Others playing in the section tournament were: Landon Runia (106), Cole Weidert (122), Easton Braun (123), and John Christians (126).
In the girls side of the competion, the 4 teams to advance were: Windom Area, Heron Lake-Okabena, Murray County Central, and Hendricks. The Adrian girls, unfortunately, were unable to qualify anyone for day 2 of the tournament. Playing for the Lady Dragons in the tournament were: Annika Elias (113), Alexia Kemper (119), Gracia Elias (122), and Josi Altman (129).
Neither of the Adrian teams have a senior on the roster and all gained valuable experience during the 2017 golf season. With this year of varsity competition under their belts, both teams will look to improve in the 2018 campaign.
