Each year, in the beginning of December, the area towns remember loved ones who have passed away and are no longer with us to celebrate the holidays. This has become known as the lighting of the Tree of Lights. Adrian, Lismore and Ellsworth come together and light a tree in Adrian in front of the EMS building on Maine Street. The whole event is sponsored by Sanford Luverne Hospice. Even though Hospice is involved, it is not just for someone who has been under hospice care. Families are encouraged to enter their loved ones name no matter what the circumstances surrounding their passing.
This year’s tree lighting will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 6:00 p.m in the Senior Dining Center at the EMS building. There will be a short program with Father Colletti giving a short message and the youth of United Methodist Church will present some songs. The names of the departed will be read and a candle lit for each of them and the program will end with the tree lighting. Coffee and refreshments are served afterward. The program lasts about 1/2 hour and is well worth attending.
So no matter when your loved one passed; this year, last year or longer ago than that; and no matter how they passed away, you are invited to come and join your neighbors and friends to remember those we have lost.
There is a $5 donation for each name, with the donations going directly to the Hospice Cottage in Luverne. The registration sheets are available at each of the area churches, Keith’s Grocery, Adrian State Bank, Nobles County Review, Sunrise View and Adrian Country Living Cottages, or by calling Deb Kroon (360-7671). The deadline to get a name listed on the program and in the paper is Friday, November 29th. Please get yours in today.
