Taylor and Edwards travel to State

Logan Taylor and Scot Edwards participated in the MSHSL State Individual Tournament last weekend.

Taylor was unable to overcome an early deficit to Michael Miller of Frazee in his first round match, losing by an 8-2 margin.  Miller lost his quarterfinal match, eliminating Taylor from the tourney after one match.  Taylor ended his season with a record of 27-7.

Scot Edwards earned a first period fall over Austin Streich of Sibley East in his preliminary round match.  The 35 second fall advanced Edwards to the quarterfinals, where he squared off against the number three seed, Craig Orlando, of Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale.  The match started out with a bang, as Edwards and Orlando both put each other on their backs in the first period.  Orlando held a 10-6 advantage after period one, before he chose down in the second period.  Edwards gave up the escape, before getting put on his back and pinned in the second period, sending him to the wrestlebacks.  Scot took on Zach Evans of Badger-Greenbush-Middle River in the first wrestleback round.  Edwards put Evans on his back to start the match, but was unable to get the pin, holding a 5-1 advantage after one period.  Edwards chose down in the second period and was caught and pinned 56 seconds into the period eliminating him from the competition.  The loss ended Edwards’ season with a mark of 25-7.

Congratulations to both wrestlers on making the state tourney and a great season!
