MANKATO, Minn. – MnDOT advises haulers that Highway 91 from Nobles County Road 16 (160th Street) to the Nobles/Murray County line will be restricted to 7 ton per axle when spring weight restrictions are in place for the south zone, which could begin in early March.
Construction on Highway 91 from Adrian to Russell is expected to resume when weather allows this spring and be complete in late June.
Spring load restrictions are typically placed sometime in March and removed in May to prevent damage to highway pavement structure during the spring thaw. With Highway 91 still under construction, portions of the highway did not get the final surface paved making it more susceptible to damage from heavy loads.
A notice will be published three days before the start of the road restrictions. More information on seasonal road restrictions can be found at www.mndot.gov/materials/pvmtdesign/sll/index.html .
The remaining work on Highway 91 includes final paving, culvert lining, lighting, seeding and striping and will take place under traffic (no detour).
The construction project includes bridge replacements and rural box culvert construction. Resurfacing will be completed as well as sidewalk and driveway improvements in Adrian and Lake Wilson and additional lighting at rural intersections.
This 45 mile-long construction job completes Highway 91 projects planned in both MnDOT District 7 – Mankato (Nobles County) and MnDOT District 8 – Willmar (Murray and Lyon County). More information on the Highway 91 projects and the detour maps can be found at www.mndot.gov/d7/projects/hwy91/ and www.mndot.gov/d8/projects/hwy91 . The website for the District 7 project also includes a place to sign up for e-mail updates.
Central Specialties, Incorporated of Alexandria was awarded the contract with a bid of $18,451,694.
