On Saturday, July 8th, Argonne Post 32 in Adrian held its’ second annual Dawg Days of Summer. Under brilliant sunshine a crowd came to talk to a number of organizations inside of the Post Home and eat lunch with veterans, Law Enforcement Officers, and community members.
The information inside of the post covered all aspects of veteran’s issues from benefits to the effects of military service on the lives of our men and women who serve. The participants came from as far away as New Ulm, Faribault, and north of the Twin Cities Metro. As they spoke to members of our community the tone went from serious questions and answers to the sounds of laughter among those attending.
Due to the elevated temperatures the appreciation program for local Law Enforcement was moved indoors to the air-conditioned Legion building. Curtis Hendel opened the short program with a thank you to all attending and an explanation of why it is important to show those who Protect and Serve that we appreciate their service to our local communities. Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkerning finished the program, expressing appreciation for the day and speaking of Law Enforcement’s appreciation and support for veterans in our communities.
Shortly before 3 PM Nobles County Deputy Mike Schei and his K9 partner conducted a demonstration of some of the dog’s capabilities. Though a medium sized Belgium Malinois, he showed those in attendance a strong ability to apprehend a bad guy, played by hometown bad guy Ryan Kruger, and a great determination to protect his handler. Deputy Schei answered a number of questions from the crowd.
The Dawg Days of Summer closed out at 4 PM. Argonne Post 32 would like to thank everyone how attended the Summit, especially those that travelled good distances to be here. Our members also want to say “Thank You” to those that work long shifts in terrible weather and conditions while dealing with people that, many times, do not appreciate their job or positions. Please remember that when you need them, our local Law Enforcement Officers are the ones that come running to help.
See you next year!
