Funeral services for Rosella J. Dammer, age 84, of Worthington, were held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Worthington, MN officiated by Pastor Galen Smith. Burial was in the Little Rock Cemetery in Little Rock, IA. Rosella died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN. She was born April 8, 1933, in Rushmore, MN to George and Luella (Habbena) Wiertzema. She attended country school.
Rosella married Harm Dammer on April 26, 1951 in Rushmore, MN. They were true soulmates always taking care of each other and walking side by side, hand in hand. They lived their entire married lives in the Rushmore and Worthington areas. She was a devoted wife; very rarely did you see Harm and Rosella apart. Rosella was employed as a meat wrapper at Swanson’s Grocery Store, in Worthington, MN and continued on when it became Hy-Vee for twenty six years. She started working at the store on Tenth Street and moved out to the Northland Mall location.
After her retirement, Rosella and Harm enjoyed many bus trips, traveling to such places as New York City, Washington DC, Arizona, California, the Rose Festival in Oregon, the Canadian Rockies, British Columbia and many more places throughout the United States. They made many new friends on these trips and always kept in contact after they returned. They enjoyed going fishing, joy rides around the lake, polka music and going to the casino where Rosella always seemed to be luckier than anyone else. Rosella’s greatest love was her family and spending time with them. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always putting everyone else’s need before her own. Rosella especially enjoyed going to all the events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and baking them cinnamon rolls and cookies or whatever else they wanted (even Liver!) She was a great cook and loved to have the family together for meals whenever they could come. She spent many hours crocheting lovely doilies, coloring, playing cards and fixing puzzles with Harm. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Worthington.
Rosella is survived by her husband of sixty six years, Harm Dammer, Worthington, MN; three daughters, Sharon (Wayne) Jones, Adrian, MN; Mary (Darwin) Sieve, Worthington, MN; and Sandra (Don) Meyer, Cologne, MN; four grandchildren, Darin (Kris) Jones, Jennifer (Darren) Osten, Jason (Holly) Sieve and Justin (Holli) Sieve; nine great-grandchildren, Hanna, Kailey, Joshua, Ella, Presley, Madison, Monroe, MacKenzie and Crosby; three step-grandchildren, Tammy (Randy VanLaar) Postma, Kevin (Woody) Meyer and Bryan (Mitchelle) Meyer; five step great-grandchildren, Kory, Christopher, Nathan, Tiera and Jag; two brothers, Virgil (Anita) Wiertzema, Worthington, MN; and Marvin (Verna) Wiertzema, Rushmore, MN; two sisters, Florence Winter, Rock Rapids, IA; and Lorie Wiess, Adrian, MN; in-laws, Johnny Dammer, Alma Wiertzema, Lena Wiertzema and Nancy Wiertzema; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Herman, Clarence and Orvin Wiertzema; a sister, Verona Wiertzema; and a step great-grandchild, Shannon.
