A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard Loren Peters, age 79, of Red Wing, was held Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Red Wing. Richard died Thursday, May 18, 2017, at St. Crispin Living Community Care Center in Red Wing. He was born August 10, 1937, in Adrian, MN to Herman and Gertie (Loger) Peters. He graduated from Adrian High School, attended Mankato State College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education, and then received his master’s degree from Winona State College. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1964.
Richard married Bonnie Blanck on July 7, 1972. He taught school in Butterfield, MN before moving to Red Wing, where he taught Industrial Arts at Twin Bluff Middle School until retiring in1996. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post #1218 and was actively involved in the Boy Scouts. Richard enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture.
Richard is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three brothers, Robert (Linda) of Adrian, MN; Curtis (Blanche) of Winona, MN; and Dennis (Judy) of Slayton, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and six brothers; Melvin, Harold, Kenneth, LeRoy, Dwayne and Delmar.
