insania“When a stressed out nursing student covers a night shift in a hospital’s morgue…things start to become strange. How long could you last?”  This is a description of the short horror film, “Insania,” as described in ScreenMagazine earlier this month.

“Insania” premiered at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Lafayette, Indiana, on October 13, 2016, along with two other movie shorts, “Lapse,” and “Mushroom Cloud.”  More than 100 people attended the event at the historic theatre in downtown Lafayette.

“Insania,” is based on the short story “Nurse’s Training,” by Rona Vaselaar.  Vaselaar was inspired by the idea after learning that her grandmother, Shirley Vaselaar, worked in a hospital morgue when she was a young nursing student.

“I heard the story on the NoSleep podcast and I knew I had to make a film from it,” says director Derrick Childers, who adapted the story into a screenplay.  Vaselaar was happy to give Childers permission to use the story when he contacted her.  Childers’ team included Director of Photography Jack Klink, SFX makeup from Clayton LeCain-Guffey and a cast that included Brittany Smith, Shaun Walling, Rebekah Bruni, Nicole Rice, Hauke Bahr and Scott Hankins. The movie was produced by Fear More Studios.  “Insania” is listed in the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com).

Rona Vaselaar learned about the movie when director Childers contacted her in September of this year.  He sent her a link to the movie trailer (which can be found on Facebook and on YouTube under “Insania”).  Says Vaselaar, “I am overwhelmed by the fact that someone wanted to turn my story into a film, and I am very excited to see the product.  I have been very curious as to how this particular story would translate into another medium, and I have high hopes for its success.”
