Pitching and timely hitting lead to win over JCC

The Dragons used the arm and bat of junior Grant Jansma to earn a win over Jackson County Central last Friday.  The win is the Dragons first of the young season.

Jansma started the game on the mound for Adrian.  In the top of the first, he allowed one batter to reach base, but later picked him off of first base.  A pop up ended the top of the inning.  Marshall Wagner walked and stole second base.  He was driven home by Lance Luettel when Luettel singled to left with two outs.  Luettel was then driven home by Jansma on a double down the left field line.  After one inning of play, Adrian led 2-0.

The Huskies threatened to score in the second, but Jansma was again able to pick off a runner at first base and get the next out to get out of the inning.  The Dragons were set down in order in the bottom half of the second.

Both the Huskies and Dragons went down in order in the third. Jackson was able to tie the game up in the fourth when they touched up Jansma for two runs on three hits. The Dragons quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth.  A Jansma single, IanStamer walk, Brandon Schnoor double led to two Dragon runs.  After four, it was Adrian 4 JCC 0.

JCC went down quietly in the fifth. Adrian was able to tack on an insurance run without the aid of a hit.  Reyne opened the inning with a walk.  He would eventually score on a dropped third strike to make the score 5-2 Adrian.

Jackson scored one run in the sixth on a Dragon error and two hits to pull within two runs.  Adrian could not get a baserunner in the bottom of the sixth, leaving the score Adrian 5 JCC 3.

Luettel came in on the mound to close the door in the seventh. After walking the first batter on four pitches, he was able to settle down.  He got the next three hitters out, striking out two of them to end the game.

Jansma earned the win on the mound, going six innings.  He allowed three runs (two earned) and struck out seven batters.  Luettel got the save, pitching the final inning and striking out two.

Jansma led the Dragons at the plate with two hits (2B) and an RBI.  Luettel had one hit, one RBI, and scored once. Schnoor had an RBI double and scored a run  Stamer stole two bases in the game.  Trace Kremin, Marshall Wagner, and Dawson Krahling all stole one base.
