Panther girls split wins and losses

Ellsworth 23

The Ellsworth Lady Panthers suffered a tough loss against Trinity Christian (Hull, IA) losing 33 to 23.  At the end of the first half, Ellsworth was down by only five points, 20-15, but Trinity Christian proved to be too much, beating Ellsworth by a score of 33-23.

Lizzie Chapa led the Ellsworth Lady Panthers in scoring with 8 points, followed by Sierra Smith with 6 points of her own. Kallie Chapa pulled down nine rebounds and had three assists in the contest.

Alyson Maassen led all scorers for Trinity Christian with 9 points. Adding to the score was Alyssa Uittengaad with 8 points and five rebounds.

Ellsworth drops to 4-10 overall on the year.

The Lady Panthers hang on to defeat the Lady Dragons 50-47

Ellsworth started the night off with a shooting streak, going 3 for 3 by Kallie Chapa from around the bucket and 2 for 2 by Sierra Smith and Kallie Chapa from the three point range, creating a 12-2 run against the

Adrian Lady Dragons. Ellsworth trailed at half time by one point, 26-25 but took back the lead from Adrian early in the second half.

Senior Sierra Smith led all

scorers in the contest with 17 points, followed by teammates

Kallie Chapa and Morgan Dreesen with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Kallie Chapa and

Sierra Smith also pulled down six rebounds apiece, along with Morgan Dreesen contributing five steals.

Bailey Lonneman had scored 16 points for the Dragons followed by McKinley

Nelson with 10 points.

The Ellsworth Lady Panthers improve to a 5-10 record overall, and a 4-9 record in the Red Rock Conference.

Southwest Christian Eagles girls basketball team pulled a win after a strong performance by Jazlynn Prins. Prins scored a game high of 27 points to go along with a few assists. Also having a good scoring performance for the Eagles was Maron Nerem dropping 13 points of her own. Southwest Minnesota Christian led the Ellsworth Lady Panthers 37 to 21 at the end of the first half.

Ashyln Meester tried to rally the Lady Panthers to a win but fell short, scoring 10 points while dishing out 3 assists. Sierra Smith had 9 points and also pulled down 5 rebounds on the night. Ellsworth falls to 5-11 overall and fall to 4-10 in the Red Rock Conference on the season. Ellsworth will play HLO-F this Saturday looking to sweep the series and get in the win column.

Ellsworth started the day off on a back to back to back three pointers from Ashlyn Meester, Morgan Dreesen and Kallie Chapa. Those shots fueled a 11-0 run before HLO-F’s Morgan Gehl scored a three pointer of her own to stop the Lady Panthers big run. Ellsworth continued the dominance throughout the whole game leading 31-20 at halftime. Ellsworth was able to pull out the win and sweep the Heron Lake Okabena – Fulda Coyotes on the season.

Leading Ellsworth was Ashlyn Meester with 24 points and recorded an outstanding 7 steals. Kallie Chapa had 17

points, 5 assists and pulled down 7 rebounds, along with Morgan Dreesen contributing 7 boards of her own. Sierra Smith almost had a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds. For HLO-F, Chrissy Hermeling and Morgan Gehl scored 19 and 11 points a piece. Ellsworth improves to 6-11 overall and 5-10 in the Red Rock Conference. The Ellsworth Lady Panthers will play Murray County Central on Monday, the 18th.
