Nine Dragon wrestlers competed in the Region 1 State Qualifier last Monday in Jackson. The top two wrestlers in each weight class advanced on and will wrestle in the MNGWL (Minnesota Ninth Grade and Under Wrestling League) State Tournament, which is held in Champlin Park on February 4th.
Logan Taylor battled his way to a 2nd place finish to advance on in the 100 pound weight class. Taylor needed a takedown in OT to win his first match and get to the semi finals. In the semis, he had another tough match, as he came from behind to earn a decision and advance to the finals. He wasn’t able to earn the victory in the finals, but avoided a true-second match, as the wrestler he defeated in the semis finished in 3rd place.
Beau Bullerman pinned his way through the 170 pound bracket to earn his trip to the state tournament.
Scot Edwards dominated the competition in the HWT bracket, as he earned 3 falls as well, all of which came in the 1st period. His fastest fall of the day came in the semis, where he pinned his opponent in 10 seconds.
Congratulations and good luck at State!
