Nine Speech members compete at Sections

Adrian High School will send three students to the Minnesota State High School Speech Tournament Friday, April 12 at Wayzata High School. Sabdi Bravo, Tommy Morrison and Maritza Beltran qualified for the state competition at the Section 3A tournament Saturday, April 6 at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. Students had to finish in the top three spots in their category to earn a trip to the state meet.

Junior Maritza Beltran won first place in Serious Poetry. Maritza was a state qualifier last year in poetry. She has been a finalist in Section 3A poetry every year since she was in seventh grade. This season, she has had four first places, two second places and two third places.

Senior Sabdi Bravo was third in Informative Speaking at sections and will make her third trip to the state tourney. She finished second last year in the Informative Speaking category at state, and in 2017 she finished sixth. This year in competition, Sabdi has had two first places, three second places, two third places and one fifth place.

Senior Tommy Morrison was third in Original Oratory. This is his first trip to state and his second year participating in speech. He has won a second place, two third places and one sixth place in his category this season.

Also earning a medal at Sections this year was junior Sara Knips who earned a fifth place in Serious Prose. Others who competed in sections this year were Hannah Kruse and Arianna VanMeveren in Duo, Aaron Rojas in Humorous, Gabe Thier and Austin Taylor in Discussion.
