Luverne is going nutty for nutcrackers. This is all thanks to Luverne resident Betty Mann who donated her wonderful collection of 2,500 nutcrackers to the Rock County Historical Society and which are now on permanent display at the new History Center now located at the previous Herman Motor building at 312 E Main in Luverne. Betty’s collection will be on display at the History Center year round. Her generous donation inspired the Luverne Chamber to make Luverne’s Christmas theme “All Things Nutcracker.”
The Chamber is sponsoring a “nutcracker-go” contest (a take on the popular Pokemon-go game) that individuals and families can participate in from December 3rd through December 23rd. There is no cost to the nutcracker “hosts” or the participants. Businesses and residents will have their nutcrackers on display within sight from the sidewalk or street and each nutcracker has it’s name displayed on it. The Chamber anticipates around 90 nutcrackers on display.
