Lorraine (Metz) Tourville
Lorraine Metz Tourville was born on the family farm in Lismore, MN on St. Patrick’s Day 1924. She was the daughter of Catherine E. Hendel Metz and Emil W. Metz who lived in Lismore, MN. Later, the family moved to Adrian, MN.
Lorraine graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1943 and attended Mankato College. When asked by her children, “What were your most memorable jobs?”, she stated that she loved working many years at the Omaha Railroad as a General Office Clerk and Charlie’s Cafe Exceptionale in Minneapolis.
She lived in the Catholic Guild Hall and met three of her lifetime best friends: Dotty Elm, Helen Kestner Tourville and Marty Kestner.
Alvin Joseph Tourville and Lorraine Alice Metz were married on June 14, 1948 in the beautiful St. Adrian’s Catholic Church in Adrian, MN. They had three children, Carole, Barb and Marc.
Lorraine loved flowers, gardening and the great outdoors in all seasons. She lived for several years in the Southwest and loved exploring New Mexico and Arizona.
She was a devout Catholic and walked one mile each way in sunshine and snow to Sunday Mass and continued to do so into her 90’s. Lorraine loved her entire extended family, keeping in touch by telephone and letters. She was most remembered for her caring and generosity of spirit to her Church, her children, son-in-law, seven grandchildren and their spouses, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
As a young woman, Lorraine always brought her children and cousins to Como Park. For her 90th birthday, her extended family and nieces and nephews, great nephews, cousins, one brother and one brother-in-law were there to celebrate with her.
Lorraine is now one of our family Angels and passed peacefully to the great beyond on December 28, 2016.
