Gloria Wieneke and her aunt, “Heinie” Lais of Worthington were guests in the Harry & Sandy Spidel home in Mission, Texas for a week.  While they were at the Minneapolis Airport, they had the opportunity to witness a remarkable event.  Col. Roger Hugh Donlon was the first Vietnam War soldier to receive the Medal of Honor in 1964.  He was coming to Minneapolis for a convention of all Medal of Honor winners. All attendees were greeted by local military veteran groups who welcomed them; everyone in the airport was clapping as they came off the planes.  It must have been a very emotional and heartwarming scene!

The First Presbyterian Church will hold their annual soup & dessert dinner on Sunday, November 13th at the Lismore Legion Hall. The country store will open at 10:30 a.m.and serving begins at 11:00 a.m.  Throughout the day, a silent auction will be taking place with closing bids at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this free will offering event.

The community extends sympathy to Gary Rodrigue and his family on the death of his father, Hubert “Red” Rodrigue of Onamia, MN.  Hubert was 92 and had served in the US Army during WWII. He began farming in the St. Kilian area upon his honorable discharge.  “Red” loved fishing and spending the winters in Arizona. His wife, Verona, preceded him in death.  Survivors include four sons, two daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.

Ray & Shirley Wieneke spent a long weekend at Carlos State Park near Alexandria.  They spent their days riding along the Central Lakes Bike Trail.  The trail stretches from Fergus Falls to Osakis.  The Wieneke’s logged about 55 miles on their pedal bikes, enjoying the fall colors and fresh air.

Don’t forget about SOCK-tober?  Ct. St. Bernard #886 is sponsoring “sock-tober” for the month of October and into November.  Everyone is encouraged to donate a pair or bag of socks.  The socks will be given to the local food shelves in Worthington at Thanksgiving time.  Socks for all ages are welcome.  New, clean socks are often taken for granted and members felt this was a fitting quality of life project.

Deb Lutmer and her sister Carol Giroux of Wheaton, spent a long weekend in Charlevoix, Michigan at the home of their sister, Rita & Terry Drew. The autumn colors through Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula were outstanding and grew more vibrant with each passing mile.

Joyce Erdman and her daughter Gail Erdman of Primghar, IA spent last week visiting in the home of Gail’s daughter Danielle and Elliot Apland and family in Casper, Wyoming.  It’s always fun to see the grand and great-grand children and they had a wonderful time.  Enroute home they drove through the beautiful SD Badlands.

The Lismore CCW along with the Diocese of Winona and Catholic Charities is supporting the Baby Bottle Campaign.  Donations from this campaign assist women to choose adoption or parenting rather than abortion.  Baby bottles are available in the back of St. Anthony Church. It is asked that they be filled with your spare change and returned later this month.
