The community offers sympathy to the Ray LeBrun family. Ray died Wednesday, August 15th, at the age of 86 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne. Ray and his wife Bette farmed south of Lismore until their retirement when they moved into town. Ray was very community minded, spending many years serving on various co-op boards. He enjoyed time with family, fishing, camping, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Bette and five sons, Steve, Marty, Jack, Bill, and Jim and their families. Ray died on what would have been his daughter, Cathy’s 60th birthday (she preceded him in death). Blessed be the memory of Ray LeBrun.

“Team Phoebe” participated in the annual Eastern South Dakota Heart Walk on Saturday, August 18th, at Falls Park in Sioux Falls. Phoebe Vargas was born with a congenital heart defect in November 2009. She endured three open-heart surgeries, the first one when she was just 7 days old! She had another surgery at four months and the third when she was 18 months old, in addition to several hospitalizations and “way too many” pokes, tests, procedures, and doctor appointments. Phoebe’s mom, the former Jean Lorang (daughter of Ruth and the late Marv Lorang) says her daughter Phoebe, a cute little girl with a “crazy heart”, has taught her family to count their blessings and live each moment to the fullest. Today Phoebe is 8 years old and ready to start 3rd grade at Dell Rapids St. Mary School.
