Lismore News 11-7-18

Veterans Day falls on a Sunday this year, so the annual Veterans Day program will be held on Monday, November 12th at Adrian High School gymnasium beginning at 9:30 a.m.  The program will feature the color guards from Adrian and Lismore, musical selections, and readings. Please make plans to attend, honor and show respect to our Veterans who have fought for the many freedoms we enjoy today.

Get well wishes to Randy Lenz who is recuperating following his recent 20-foot fall from his grain dryer. He broke ten vertebrae in his back, his left collarbone, right hip, and ten ribs on his left side. He also sustained a skull fracture behind his left ear, according to his CaringBridge website. Randy had surgeries to repair his ribs and broken hip.  His other fractures will heal on their own. He will be sporting a back brace for a while.  Randy is currently in a swing bed in Sanford Luverne.  He loves company but please do not visit if you have a cold or other illness. Cards may be sent to him at 19885 Durfee Ave, Adrian, MN 56110.

Gary Lutmer of St. James and his son-in-law Ryan Rydlund of Plymouth and Rick Lutmer and Adam Lutmer both of Omaha, NE were weekend guests in the home of their sister, Debby and Frank Wieneke for the opening of deer hunting and continuation of pheasant season.

The American Legion Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, November 14th at 7:00 p.m.  Patty Buysse will provide lunch and Deb Lutmer will provide the Bingo prizes.  Items on the agenda include the feather party and their Christmas donations.

The First Presbyterian Church served a luncheon consisting of chili, vegetable beef, and chicken noodle soup with an array of desserts to many guests on Sunday. Good food and fellowship were a hit with everyone.  The crowd is always excited to see who will get the traditional “mystery cooler”.  There is one catch to winning the cooler–the person who buys it must bring it back next year filled with something new.  Gengler Sons Dairy returned the cooler this year and the lucky “winner” was Jan Vandekieft. Jan’s cooler was filled with 5# of hamburger, 5# of American cheese, 5# of butter, and a package of T-bone steaks. Jan will have a year to think about what she will put in it for next year’s winner! What a fun way to carry on tradition and stretch your imagination!

Mary Krogman was a weekend guest in the home of her daughter Colleen and Dustin Schlagel at Eden Prairie.  On tap for the weekend was a lot of basketball!  Grandma Mary is Tori Schlagel’s #1 fan…and Tori’s team won the 6th grade Championship at Hopkins.  Grandson Ty also had a tournament.  Mary cheered for Ty and the 4th grade boys at Chanhassen. A busy weekend for Grandma Mary!

Congratulations to Sydney Knips on her 2nd place finish at the Minnesota Catholic Daughters state level Education contest. Sydney’s essay was titled, “Finding Joy in My Life”. She is the daughter of Rick and Kerri Knips.

The Lismore American Legion members have begun offering raffle tickets on an American Flag themed quilt donated by Pam Kramer. An avid quilter, this quilt is number 35 of the 37 that Pam has made and donated—all done in the same flag pattern. Simply beautiful!  The quilt is available to view at any of the Legion or Auxiliary functions. A lucky winner will be drawn at the Feather Party on November 18th. Thank you, Pam, for sharing your talents and donating to such a worthy cause.

Jackie Wieneke hosted the annual gathering of deer hunters for opening weekend. The guys grilled brats on Friday and Jackie served cornbread and bowls of homemade chili on Saturday.  Attending were: Troy and Eric and Nate Wieneke, all of Slayton; Matthew Kirchner, Lismore; Scott Nath of Luverne; and Joe Hornstein of Adrian. Jackie enjoys the company and hopes to keep the tradition going that was started many years ago by her late husband Glenn.

Joyce Erdman enjoyed a visit from her grandson, Justin Jonas of Sheldon, IA on Friday.  They dined at the Lismore Bar and Grill and spent the afternoon catching up with each other. Saturday afternoon Joyce was a guest in the home of her daughter, Pam and Mark Luettel in Adrian. Other family members were home for deer hunting including: Keith, Emily, Blake and Elliet Luettel and of Minnetonka; Corey, Tara,  Ainsley, Oliver, and Leo Luettel of Faribault; and Aiden and Ava Meyeraan of Luverne.  Joyce cherishes the time spent with her family.
