Attending the funeral for Sister Brenda Penning at Good Counsel Hill in Mankato, MN on Tuesday, Jan. 2, were Shirley Wieneke, Nancy Brake, and Ruth Lorang. Sr. Brenda was the Parish Director for the parishes of Lismore and St. Killian in the 1990’s. She was the first person in the Diocese of Winona to be appointed to that position.
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Wilmont on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 2:00-7:00 p.m. There will be no blood draw in Lismore this winter as Wilmont and Lismore alternate their blood drives. The blood supply is vulnerable particularly during the winter months due to inclement weather and seasonal illnesses. When you donate blood, you help save lives.
Bruce and Lindsay Meyeraan and big brother Ian hosted Aiden and Ava’s third birthday on Saturday at their home in Luverne, MN. Supper, opening gifts, and of course, birthday cake were on the agenda for the twins. Guests helping them celebrate were: Grandpa and Grandma, Mark and Pam Luettel of Adrian and Great-Grandma Joyce Erdman of Lismore. It was a fun time. Aiden and Ava will be sharing their birthday with their new baby cousin, Elliet Diana Luettel, who was born on Saturday, January 6th. Elliet is the daughter of Keith and Emily Luettel and little sister to Blake, who live in Minnetonka, MN. Welcoming the little miss are Grandparents Pam and Mark Luettel of Adrian, MN; Diana and Mike Zimmerli of Wabasso, MN; Great-Grandparents Joyce Erdman (and her late husband Earl) of Lismore; and Pat Coy of Waldorf, MN. Elliet is Joyce and Earl’s 27th great grandchild. What a blessing!
Rick and Adam Lutmer of Omaha, NE were Thursday overnight guests in the home of Dave and Deb Lutmer. On Friday, they along with Dave and Cody Lutmer enjoyed a weekend of ice fishing and overnight accommodations provided by Bruce and Ruth Lutmer in Brooklyn Park.
Ct. St. Bernard #886, Catholic Daughters of the Americas will hold their annual baby shower at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m. All baby items (unwrapped) and cash donations will be given to the Helping Hands Pregnancy Center in Worthington. A display will be set up in the back of St. Anthony’s church for donations to be dropped off until February 7th. Everyone is invited to participate.

Congratulations to Brandon and Marriah Aggen on the birth of their son, Coy Alan, who was born on December 31, 2017. Proud grandparents are Andrew and Michele Wieneke of rural Lismore and Bruce and Joni Aggen of rural Rushmore. The first time parents (and grandparents) are beaming from ear to ear!
There will be no American Legion Auxiliary meeting during the month of January.
Joyce Erdman attended the AA meeting in Woodstock on Saturday evening. Her son, Mike Erdman, received his pin for 30 years of sobriety. Mike has gone through many hard times but he always took “One Day At A Time”. He attends at least 3-4 meetings a week, helping himself and being a sponsor to other members. His family is VERY PROUD OF HIM. Congratulations, Mike!
Jack and Nancy Brake met their friends, Bob and Connie Probst, for lunch on Friday in Albert Lea, MN. They traveled on to Hastings, MN where they met Mike, Tonya, Jake and Tori Brake and Marv and Jerry Spartz of Plymouth, MN. The group watched Mallory Brake play basketball. On Saturday, Jack and Nancy were at Wayzata, MN with Tina and Jer Rosenberg cheering on Avery at her two basketball games. The Brakes spent Saturday night in the home of Ann and Dan Studnicka in Shakopee, MN. Grandma and Grandpa played with Sophia and Ben so their mom and dad could enjoy a skiing date. It was a weekend packed full of fun and family!
Congratulations to Shirley Wieneke on her retirement! Shirley’s last day of work was January 2, 2018. For the past 28 years she has worked as a drivers license examiner for the State of Minnesota. Shirley is now enjoying the “good life”.
