Library Update…

Funds raised so far:
$17,497.75
Goal:  $80,000

Each time I go to the Post Office, I am hoping to see another donation (it is always better than a bill).  Just as often, a person will come in to the library and drop off a donation for our project. There have been times when I’ve walked into a building and someone hands me a donation.   All of these donations are greatly appreciated.
The United Methodist Church is holding their annual Waffle Dinner on Wednesday, September 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  This year, they will donate $1.00 per plate to the Adrian Branch Library project.  Please plan to attend to support the Methodist Church as well as the Library.

In an effort to get ideas for gathering donations, I have been going through the 1963 newspapers to see who donated to the Library fundraiser that year.  There were many businesses and individuals that donated, and allowed their names to be printed in the newspaper. For those people/businesses/organizations that did not want to be anonymous, we will mention them in upcoming articles.  (In a book that we will have at the library after the renovation, we will list all donations except the anonymous ones, as well as memorials/tributes.)  So watch for future articles that will list current donators.
It has been fun to see which businesses and individuals gave donations back in 1963.  I will be contacting those same businesses that are still around, as well as family members of ancestors, that donated to the Library fund more than fifty years ago.
