On Monday, April 1, at 1:00 p.m, the Adrian Branch Library will be hosting the program, “Little Minnesota in WW II,” which focuses on a book by the same title. Authors Jill Johnson and Deane Johnson will be presenting the program.
Through letters from servicemen to home, photos, and interviews with relatives, the book includes stories of more than 140 men who gave their lives fighting for their country. They fought in battles that included Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Rhineland Campaign. According to the National World War II Museum, 17,867,000 men and women served in the U.S. Armed Forces; 407,316 didn’t survive the war. Every state of the Union, as well as US territories lost sons and daughters, spouses and friends in service to this country. Jill and Deane focus on those lost from some of Minnesota’s smallest towns.
The program is FREE and open to the public. The program will include the opportunity to chat with the authors, and share stories. Treats will be served. The program begins at 1:00 p.m. and will last approximately an hour. This project was funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage.
