Legion Baseball prepares for another season

After a long couple of months and, seemingly, no end of winter in sight, the sun has come out, the temperatures have drastically changed and everyone’s thoughts have moved on to one thing; baseball.  Ok, so getting the crops in the ground and construction projects rolling are probably higher on the priority list, but spring does mean baseball.

Prom was last weekend and graduation is just around the corner, so what is next, after the high school baseball season, is Legion Ball!  Two years ago the Argonne Post 32 team made the State Legion Tournament and last year they had another successful campaign.  Exciting for this year is that they have several of their returning graduates from last year’s team that can play due to the age requirement.

In talking with Coach Rogers, I can feel an excitement about this year’s season.  The roster is big and the young men are very enthused coming into the season.  This should line up to be another great year for the Argonne Post 32 baseball team.

One thing is consistent about playing Legion Baseball.  That is, the need to raise funds to support the team; pay for insurance, and hire umpires, among other things.  This Sunday the Argonne Post 32, Sons of the American Legion Squadron will hold another pancake breakfast at the hall and use it to raise funds for our baseball team.

On May 6th, come in to the Legion for the pancake breakfast and meet some of the players that will be assisting in serving the meal.  Take a minute to wish them well as they represent Argonne Post 32 in regular season and tournament play.

Two years ago, our players were complimented on their respectful behavior towards the other teams, officials, coaches, and the game of baseball itself.  Tournament officials that I had never met went out of their way to say great things about the players from our area that represent Post 32.  This year’s team will continue that tradition.

We will soon post the schedule for the season, which is flexible due to the potential duration of the high school season.  The team hopes to see you this Sunday for a great breakfast and at the ball field for some great baseball.
