REGULAR MEETING ADRIAN BOARD OF EDUCATION, JULY 19, 2016

Board Chair Lonneman called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on July 19, 2016. Members present Bullerman, Kruger, Kunkel, Lonneman, Madison, and Wolf.  Also present Superintendent Graff, Principals Lofthus and Christensen and staff member T Vollink.

Members absent: Lenz

Motion by Kunkel to approve the agenda, seconded by Wolf, motion carried.

Board Member Kunkel inquired about the lights at the tennis courts and whose responsibility they are.  It was determined that the City of Adrian needed to turn power on and the District would be responsible for costs incurred.

Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to approve the minutes from the June 20, 2016 meeting, with noted corrections, motion carried.

Motion by Bullerman to approve the claims and accounts for the month of June 2016, seconded by Madison, motion carried.

Superintendent Graff presented the June 30, 2016 reports.  Motion by Madison, seconded by Bullerman to approve the account balances, motion carried.

Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report.

Mr. Lofthus gave updates on curriculum, staff training and playground renovation project.

Mr. Lofthus presented information to purchase a K-5 Music Curriculum.  This would be a two-year installment.  He made a request to the PTO to fund the first payment.   Upon discussion and debate a motion by Bullerman, second by Madison to purchase curriculum, upon a roll call vote:  Bullerman – yes, Kunkel – yes, Madison – yes, Wolf – yes, Kruger – yes and Lonneman – yes.  Motion passes.

Board inquired about the entry carpet and the building security system installations. 

Mr. Christensen presented his Middle/High School Principal’s report.

Presented a teaching contract for E Kiers as a Middle/High School Special Education Instructor, along with Head Cross Country coaching motion by Wolf, seconded by Kruger to accept contract, motion carried.

Presented a request to hire J Kruger as Head Baseball Coach.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to accept coaching contract, motion carried

The board expressed that they are open to accepting Ellsworth for other pairing options for extra curricular activities. 

Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:

Presented a Building and Grounds update. 

Presented additional information on replacing lights in the Elementary Commons area and in the High School Gym with LED lighting.  It was not cost efficient to replace the lights in the Elementary at this time and recommended not to replace.  Recommended to replace lighting in the High School due to the age of fixtures, cost to replace lamps and amount of time lights are on and usage of the gym.  Presented a quote from Gary’s Electric Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Bullerman to accept quote, motion carried.

Presented the revised Parent/Student Handbook.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to approve handbook with additional revisions, motion carried.

Presented the revised Activities Handbook.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Madison to approve handbook with revisions, motion carried.

Presented the revised Staff Handbook.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to approve handbook with revisions, motion carried.

Presented the revised Crisis Management Handbook.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve handbook with revisions, motion carried.

Reviewed the third draft of Policy 902 – Use of School District Facilities and Equipment following discussion, and revisions will present again at August meeting.

Presented Policy 721 – Uniform Grant Guidance Policy Regarding Federal Revenue Sources.  Upon review, motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to approve Policy 701, motion carried.

Presented and reviewed the 2016-2017 Long Term Facilities Maintenance Budget for Revenues and Expenditures.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to approve the budget, , motion carried.

Presented and reviewed the 2016-2017 Long Term Facilities Maintenance Budget Statement of Assurances.  Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to approve, motion carried.

Presented and explained the Minnesota Department of Education – Identified Official with Authority.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to list Mr. Graff as the Official with Authority, motion carried.

Presented a request to add B Einck to the Tenured Teachers of the District.  Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Wolf to approve request, motion carried.

Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Bullerman to adjourn the July meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:04 P.M., all voted in favor, motion carried.
