On October 14, Heather Lautt started at Adrian Country Living Cottages as the new Director, following the resignation of Karen Rye.  Heather comes to the Cottages from Sanford Hospice in Worthington.  “I worked at Sanford Hospice for one year,” she said.  “I came from the Slayton Nursing Home, where I was the Assistant Director of Nursing.  I liked working in Hospice, but I missed working with elderly people.  I’ve been working in long term care since I was sixteen.”

Heather and her husband Tim live in Lismore with one son, Jayden, who is a sixth grader in the Adrian Middle School.  “I have a daughter, Morgan Vortherms, who is a CNA here at the Cottages.  There is a long history of medical involvement in my family.  I have 3 sisters who are nurses and my oldest sister and my mom are CNAs.”

“Quality of care is huge, huge, huge in my book,” she went on.  “It is something I want to see improve up here.  Karen (Rye) has been a great help to me.  I can call her anytime with questions, and even though she started her new job in Sioux Falls, she came in at night and worked with me.”

Heather went on to say that there has been no major change in staff.  She said they are looking for individuals to come on staff as an unlicensed health aide.  “This is a position similar to the CNA,” she explained, “but they will be trained here and so will not be certified.”
