The Lady Dragons gathered on Monday, March 11th to celebrate the 2018-19 season, hand out awards and salute seniors Brisa Zebe, Avery Balster, McKinley Nelson, Autumn Grussing and Megan Fuerstenberg. The Lady Dragons finished the year with a record of 7-16.
Not only have these girls continued to improve and work hard on the court they excel in the classroom also. The team earned Minnesota Coaches Association Academic All-State team Gold Plate award with a team grade point average of 3.85. Seniors Avery Balster, Megan Fuerstenberg, Autumn Grussing and Brisa Zebe received Academic All State Honors which is a Senior award for athletes with a cumulative 3.80 GPA throughout their high school career.
2018-19 letter winners (number of times lettered) were Seniors: Avery Balster (2) Brisa Zebe (2) McKinley Nelson (2) Autumn Grussing (2) and Megan Fuerstenberg (2; Juniors: Moriah Bullerman (2), Kristina Cauwels (1), Bailey Lonneman (2) and Jennifer Preuss (1); Sophomores: Shawna Rogers (1) and Jayden Zebe (1); Stats: Emma Fuerstenberg (3) and Elizabeth Erwin (2). The captains for the 2018-19 season were Seniors: Avery Balster, Megan Fuerstenberg, Autumn Grussing, McKinley Nelson and Brisa Zebe.
Individual team leaders and award winners were: best FG% (50+ attempts) Two pointers: 1st- Bailey Lonneman 85/183 46%, 2nd – Jayden Zebe 35/102 34%, Three pointers: (30+ attempts) 1st-McKinley Nelson 11/32 34%. Best FT% (30+ attempts) 1st- Jayden Zebe: 25/31 81%, 2nd – Bailey Lonneman: 35/46 76%. Leading Rebounder: 1st- Bailey Lonneman: 191 (8.7 avg), 2nd- McKinley Nelson: 76 (3.6 avg). Leading Assists: 1st- Moriah Bullerman: 50 (2.2 avg), 2nd- Avery Balster: 34 (1.5 avg). Leading Steals: 1st- Avery Balster: 32 (1.4 avg), 2nd: Bailey Lonneman 23 (1.0 avg). Red Rock All-Conference First Team: 1st: Bailey Lonneman, Honorable Mention: Avery Balster and Moriah Bullerman. Tim Orth Benefit Game: Avery Balster.
Girls basketball team awards: Most Improved: This is given to the player that has shown the most improvement over the course of the year. Varsity Award Winner: Jayden Zebe, JV Award Winner: Hiltyn Heitkamp. Best practice player: this award is given to the player that gives the best effort during practice. This should be a person that works hard, even when the coaches aren’t watching. This should be a person that pushes her teammates and makes them better. Varsity Award Winner: Moriah Bullerman, JV Award Winner: Julia Bullerman. Hustle award: this is given to the player that shows the most consistent hustle during both games AND practice. Think about the person who is diving on the floors after loose balls, or the person that is always getting her hand on a rebound, etc. Varsity Award Winner: Moriah Bullerman, JV Award Winner: Mayssa Tweet. Dragon Award: this award is given to the player that best exemplifies leadership, character, hard work, and dedication. This award should be given to someone who has a great attitude toward teammates and coaches, and someone who is always encouraging others and puts the team before themselves. This can be given to someone in any grade. Varsity Award Winners: Moriah Bullerman, Bailey Lonneman, and McKinley Nelson, JV Award Winner: Mayssa Tweet and Julia Bullerman. Best defensive player: this award is given to the person you think was our best defender this season. Think about which of your teammates had to guard the other teams’ toughest players, etc. Varsity Award Winner: Moriah Bullerman, JV Award Winner: Mayssa Tweet.
