The Dragons scored first, but were unable to hold off the hot hitting of the RTR Knights last Tuesday in Windom. Adrian eventually lost 7-2, ending the Dragons season.
Adrian’s leadoff batter, Landon Rogers singled to open the game. Rogers stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would score on a dropped strike three to get Adrian on the board. Lance Luettel added a two-out single in the inning. RTR answered quickly in the bottom of the first. A leadoff triple and sac fly scored a run to tie the game at one.
The Dragons got a base hit from Grant Jansma but nothing more in the second. The Knights batted around in their half of the inning. Two outs at home plate kept Adrian in the game as the Knights were able to score three runs in the inning. After two innings, it was RTR 4, Adrian 1.
Luettel got on base again in the third, this time by being hit by a pitch. He was stranded at third to end the top of the third. Adrian starting pitcher Noah Reyne set down the Knights in order to keep Adrian’s deficit at three.
A two-out Ian Stamer walk, followed by a Jansma single set up a scoring opportunity for Adrian in the fourth. Rogers capitalized with an RBI single to give the Dragons a run in the inning. Two strikeouts and a ground ball to second base set the Knights down in the bottom of the inning. After four Adrian trailed 2-4.
The Dragons did not threaten to score in the fifth. RTR took advantage of two errors in the inning to score two more runs. After five the Knights led by a score of 6-2.
The Dragons got another hit from Jansma in the sixth, but were again unable to score. In the RTR half, the Knights scored one run on two hits. Their lead was now at 7-2 going to the seventh inning.
The Dragons threatened with two hits in the seventh, but couldn’t plate any runners making the final score 7-2 Knights. Skylar Polzine and Brent Hokeness had the hits in the inning for Adrian.
Jansma led the Dragons at the plate with three hits. Rogers added two hits of his own. Hokeness, Luettel, and Polzine all had a hit in the loss.
Reyne pitched the entire game for the Dragons. He allowed seven runs (five earned) and struck out six batters.
The Dragons season comes to an end with a 9-10 (7-3 conference) record on the year.
