Kemper and Veld qualify for State Tournament

The second day of Section 3A Tournament play took place on Wednesday, May 30 at the Worthington Country Club.  The golfers played with intermittent rain showers to begin the day, but eventually played under ideal conditions as the day progressed.  Both of the Adrian golf teams started the day in 3rd place as a result of the Day 1 scores and both teams finished in 3rd place at the end of the tournament.  The Lady Dragons turned in a 2 day total of 877 for their third place finish, while the AHS boys carded a team score of 773 for their 2 day total.

Alexia Kemper started the day in 2nd place overall and that is where she finished.  Alexia’s 186, was second only to Abby Hamman of MCC who shot a medalist total of 172.  Two day totals of the Adrian girls were:  Annika Elias (230), Gracia Elias (230), Josi Altman (231), Taya Elias (254), and Madeline Wagner (294).  Kemper is the lone senior on this year’s girls squad and her golf abilities and leadership qualities will be greatly missed in 2019.  The girls team is young and gained a wealth of valuable experience on which to build for next season.

On the boys side of the tournament, Mitchell Veld started the day in a three way tie for 10th place.  At the end of the second round, Veld moved up to fifth place overall with a total of 183 and a slot in the state tournament.  Both of the Henning boys, Brady and Brock, had put themselves in position to make a move after the first round, but missed the cut which was at 186.  Brady’s total of 190 was just 4 strokes off the cut, while Brock finished at 195.  Landon Runia (205), Easton Braun (222), and John Christians (252) rounded out the boys team.  Mitchell Veld and Brady Henning leave us with 2 critical spots to fill, but we are fortunate to have some young golfers waiting in the wings for 2019.

Alexia Kemper and Mitchell Veld now move on to the 2018 Minnesota State High School Golf Tournament to be played at the Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, MN on June 12th and 13th.  This will be the second trip to the state tournament for each of these golfers.  Best of luck to the Adrian Dragon golfers at State!!
