Joyce McCarthy, English and Journalism instructor and Speech Coach at Adrian High School was recognized at the Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota’s (CTAM) Annual Conference that was held September 13-15, 2018 in St. Cloud, MN.  Joyce received the Association’s Outstanding Individual Award.   The award recognizes Joyce’s outstanding contributions to the speech and theater community in AHS and in SW Minnesota.  Joyce was selected from nominations received by fellow coaches.  She received letters of support from Lisa Letcher, English Teacher and Speech Coach from Windom High School and Jason Olson, a former coach from Adrian who is now at Hutchinson High School.  From these recomendations, the CTAM Board of Governors chose Joyce to receive the award.

Joyce is responsible for three speech tournaments at AHS, one of which is the sub-section 10 tournament.  Hundreds of students from around the area compete at these tournaments each year.  According to Lisa,  Joyce does a fantastic job as tournament manager.  Joyce also spends countless hours each year directing the school play, as well as sewing costumes and the behind the scenes work that a play requires to have a successful run.

Joyce started with the Adrian School District in 2000.  She also serves on the Speech Advisory Committee, which means she has a hand in keeping the speech community vibrant and functioning in our part of the state.  Congratulations Joyce and thank you for all the dedication to the student of Adrian High School.
