The forecast for Friday/Saturday night is 18 to 20 below.  And don’t forget about snow and maybe some wind. This is just a little test as we begin the winter portion of our wonderland. We have made it thru worse weather before, but it takes considerable more care.  Anticipate your needs, find a warm place and stay there if you can.

Christmas baking could warm the old house this weekend. Fresh cookies, the sugar ones, decorated like Santa, bells, Christmas trees, stars and poinsettias. My favorite is the bells because they have the least pointy edges and the least dry and crispy parts, but my top of the list of Christmas treats is butter brickle with lots of peanuts and a generous amount of shredded coconut.

I do like all the seasonal treats with fudge being at the bottom.  I would put towards the top the left over pie crust from making seven pies like my mother’s. Her crust was made with rendered lard, which is hard to find these days. So, this crust was in the bottom of a pie plate. It was generously sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. But there is a day of reckoning when you climbed on the scale and wondered what happened. By New Year’s Day you know what will be your first resolution. So be thoughtful as you go fourth in this holiday season.

Three boys are in the schoolyard bragging about their fathers. The first boy says, “My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, they give him $50.”

The second boy says, “That’s nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, they give him $100.”

The third boy says, “I got you both beat. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon. And, it takes eight people to collect all the money!”

Have a good week.
