I’m writing this Monday after two days in a deer stand enjoying the woods and all the creatures. Yes, there were deer, mostly does moving through. Cautiously they advanced, going for their evening feeding grounds. There were plenty of birds to watch as well, with an occasional squirrel and some things you could hear but not quite see. It rained lightly both days. I was tucked under a hunting umbrella that saved the day. Listening to nature is the best part of hunting. There are always sounds that tell a story. The light babble of the creek interrupted by something crossing, a squirrel cussing out an intruder or a bird answering the call of another. It only goes totally quiet when a human is moving through. Hopefully there may be a few more days this year.
The election Tuesday has an outcome that may be predictable for some races and it’s anybody’s guess for the rest. I have my favorites just like you and have faith they have the qualities we need in local government. Lord help us if we get idiots. One or two of them can be controlled by the majority, more and we are in trouble. This Wednesday we will know what happened.
The rain ended the leaf raking which is as good as an excuse as I need. The crops have been harvested and most of the fields are ready for winter. Hopefully we can get by Thanksgiving without snow.

Wife: “No, I’m telling you, I’m right! He couldn’t eat the Trix because he was an adult rabbit and Trix were only supposed to be for kids.”
Husband: “Well, I always thought it was just because he was a rabbit and not a person.”
[A period of silence — the wife looks down at her food.]
Husband: “What’s wrong?”
Wife: “I’m just really getting tired of you always being wrong.”
