I have picked several tomatoes this past week and they were great. Nothing like homegrown vegetables for taste. Beyond tomatoes and cucumbers I rely on farmers markets because of the variety and quality, not to mention their ability to grow stuff better than I can.
Our rains have ruined a lot of roads, damaged bridges and damaged a lot of personal property. Just traveling around the country is difficult adding miles to a short journey. Emergency management went well with evacuation, road closures and orchestrating the start of recovery. The recovery will take some time but we will make it. There has been no loss of life or serious injury. The roads can be repaired and basements and houses can be cleaned. The county will recover and so will we.
Congratulations to Mike Schaffer, State Commander of the American Legion. The man has represented our area, our state and our veterans. Commander Schaffer will be handing off the post next week to a new commander. Mike and his wife Nina will have a little more time at home.

An old-time pastor was riding furiously down the road, hurrying to get to church on time. Suddenly, his horse stumbled and threw him to the ground.
Lying in the dirt, his body wracked with pain, the pastor called out, “All you angels in heaven, help me get up on my horse!”
With extraordinary strength, he leaped onto the horse’s back—and fell off the other side. From the ground again, he called out, “All right, just half of you angels this time!”
