We have our full share of snow, some say more and there is a lot of winter to go. Friday’s dump of 12 plus inches in Fulda and two on Sunday and more Monday is straining. You may have more or less but it was still a constant effort moving it. We now live at the mercy of the wind. The below zero temperatures put a cramp on life also. The crackling cold can wear on a person until you can only think of hibernating or escape.
The wildlife will need some extra help this winter. The birds, squirrels and rabbits visit the feeders regularly. Mine, it feels like, stare in the windows if the feed runs low. Even a bread crumb helps. Think how you can help. Pheasants and deer will require the help also. We can’t do it all, but something can help some.
The bullhead feed at Okabena was great again. Having bullheads several time a year fills a craving started years ago when it was a regular part of the meal menu, as well as recreation. The unique taste of fried bullheads brings back the lazy days of Sunday afternoons with family spent at the lake or river catching a bucket full and then spending hours cleaning them. Running up and down the shore, writing stuff in the sand ( I couldn’t spell then, either). Mosquitoes, ticks and flies didn’t seem to be the problem that they are today. Maybe it’s just not that bad when you are a kid, but it was a good time in life. All the taste and memories for the small donation of a meal. Don’t miss the next one.

Two friends were going on a road trip to Florida. A neighbor told them that they’d be fine as long as they paid close attention to the road signs along the way.
They’d driven 30 miles when they saw one that read, “Clean Restrooms Ahead”.
Two months later they arrived in Florida exhausted, having used up 86 bottles of Windex, 267 rolls of paper towels, and three cases of toilet-bowl cleaner. Total restrooms cleaned: 450.
