During the last three years, for 36 installments now, we have travelled the world through the eyes and stories of our local veterans and active duty personnel. From the trenches of France and the Islands of Japan and spanning the American Civil War to present day, we have stepped back to take a moment to honor those that have served our nation and helped to preserve our freedoms and high standard of living.
We have profiled well over 200 of our veterans in three years. Many families have been well represented as well as those that come from families with a lesser history in the military. We have also seen members of our community that have served anywhere from two to over 30 years in active duty and National Guard.
When we embarked on this journey we hoped to run twelve editions and cover a year. The one decision we made in the beginning was that when the profiles stopped coming in we would put this project to bed.
As thrilled as we are with the turnout so far, we know that there are a great many more veterans out there that we have not yet run. I know of several large families and many individuals that have yet to be honored on this page. Unfortunately, if the information doesn’t get in we can’t do the profiles.
I do believe that the end of the page is coming. Even with a large number still hanging out there we have to stick to our original plan. Once the veterans information stops coming in, we will finish the run for good. If you or your family wish to be included please do not wait any longer, I would love to do this page indefinitely but can’t if the information isn’t available. At the end we are hoping to compile all of the profiles into one large file and possible publication of the military history of western Nobles County.
Don’t miss the boat…..
