The cross country team traveled to Tracy, Minnesota, on September 7th, to take part in the TMB Invite. Adrian was one of 16 teams that participated in the meet and looked to compete against some of the tougher competition in Southwest Minnesota.
The junior high girls started the meet with a 2,000 meter run. Abbey Leopold and Ashlee Christians were the two competing Dragon runners in the junior high race. Leopold crossed the finish line and earned 32nd place with a time of 9:54. Christians was not far behind, clocking a time of 10:07 and placing 34th. Following the girl’s junior high race, William White-Mclesie was up to run the challenging 2K loop. He had a nice run of 10:10 and placed 61st. Neither junior high team was complete for the Dragons.
The lone junior varsity runner for the Dragons was newcomer Alysha Wieneke. The JV course consisted of two 2,000 meter loops. Wieneke got out to a strong start and finished 8th place out of the 43 runner field. Her time was 21:05.
The varsity girls 5K field was made up of 79 runners. Moriah Bullerman competed well. She passed many runners, and was able to place 7th against some strong competition. Bullerman’s time was 21:55. Following Bullerman was Gracia Elias and Hiltyn Elias who each ran strong races. The two runners both ran 25:35 and placed 53th and 54th place respectively. Halle Heitkamp was the 4th Adrian runner placing 65th in 26:59. Annika Elias ran her first race of the season clocking a time of 29:19 and senior Courtney Penning finished in 29:50 making improvements from Mountain Lake. The Adrian girl’s team placed 10th overall.
Brady Henning made the race very exciting for Dragon fans. He made sure it took all 5,000 meters to decide the individual winner. Henning and a Worthington runner took the race down to the wire and Henning just missed winning the race by a tenth of a second. Henning placed second overall in the 98 runner field with a time of 17:49. Christian Weidert passed dozens of runners throughout the race and was the second Dragon in 36th place in 19:51. Caleb Hornstein continued to improve and ran a season best time of 22:05 and received 62 place. The boy’s team was incomplete.
The Dragons will race again on Monday, September 11th in Marshall, Minnesota.
