Funeral services for Gertrude Francis Aning, age 94, of Luverne, will be held at 11 am Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Jason Cunningham.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Luverne Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Gertrude died Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. She was born December 30, 1922, in Sibley, IA, to Henry and Anna (Dunker) Vogt. She attended country school near Sibley.
Gert married Sievert Aning Sr. on February 23, 1949, in Holland, MN. The couple farmed south of Luverne until 1951, when they moved to Luverne. Gert worked at Worthmore, the Cardinal Drive-In, Nelson’s Department Store and Carl’s Grocery all in Luverne. While in her 80’s, Gert worked in the office and was in charge of handling coupon’s when she worked at Glen’s Grocery. She retired in her late 80’s.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne, where she had served as Deacon, the Presbyterian Women and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, baking cookies, having tea with friends & family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Gert is survived by her five children, Jake (Marilyn) Aning, Luverne; Anna (Walter) Ahrendt, Luverne; Sievert Jr. (Audrey) Aning, Luverne; Patty Aning, Detroit Lakes; and Kathy Aning, Sioux Falls, SD; eleven grandchildren, Mike Aning, Melissa (Cory) Rutten, Sarah (Jason) DeBeer, Krista Ahrendt, Emily (Roland) Schock, Dustin Aning, Amanda Aning, Cassy (Adam) Bailey, Callie Aning, Brad Taylor and Samantha Taylor; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother, Harold (LaVonne) Vogt, Luverne; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Vogt, Pipestone.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sievert Sr. on May 6, 1992; six brothers, George, John, Henry, Edward, Tom and Paul Vogt; three sisters, Lena Groote, Tena Altman; and Annie Timmerman; and an infant sister, Lena.
