Two weeks ago, a person came into the Adrian Branch Library and dropped off a $500 donation for our renovation project. That is the first donation that we received to go toward our goal of $80,000. Add to that, the money generated from the book sale, and we added $2,000 to that amount. As this article goes to press, there have been three online donations: a $50 memorial in honor of deceased grandparents; a $25 donation in tribute to the Adrian Dragons; and a donation from someone who has never set foot in our library – a person from the state of Georgia gave $20 after reading about our library on Facebook.
And so our fundraising begins!
The library building is in need of repair and updates, which will be funded by the County of Nobles, as per an agreement by our County Commissioners at the April 19, 2016, County meeting; that will cover about 75% of the project. This portion of the project will address things such as structural changes that include ceiling repair, entry ADA compliance, heating/cooling system, flooring, lighting, etc. There are NO plans to expand the current building.
The rest of the project – that which covers the furnishings in the Adrian Branch Library – is to be raised through donations. This 25% of the project will go toward shelves, tables, chairs, desks, counters, display units, a check-out desk, etc. The donations we receive will go toward covering the costs of the furnishings.
