Freethrows Provide GBB with Win Over Edgerton

Making 19 of 21 second half freethrows, the Adrian Dragons were able to push a six-point halftime lead into a 60-43 win over the Flying Dutchmen of Edgerton Public. The win brings the Dragons to within one game of the five hundred mark at 6-7, while moving their Red Rock Conference record to 5-2. It’s their third consecutive win of 2017.

The Dutchmen scored first in the game on their first possession knocking down a three-point shot just seconds into the contest. A Miah Kunkel fieldgoal brought Adrian to within a point at 16:33. Hannah Bullerman gave the Dragons their first lead of the night at 4-3 before Edgerton responded with a 4-3 run, knotting the score at seven apiece.

Mikayla Jeffers then struck from beyond the arc to make it 10-7 in Adrian’s favor. A pair of Hannah Bullerman freethrows were followed by another Jeffers three-pointer making it an 8-2 rally, giving the Dragons a seven-point advantage at 16-9.

Edgerton came right back with a 5-0 run to bring themselves to within a basket at 16-14. Again, Adrian rallied with a 7-0 run of their own to make it a 23-16 game at 2:56. Kaitlyn Christians led the Dragon scoring spree with a pair of fifteen footers while Paige Bullerman added a freethrow and fieldgoal.

The Dragons would eventually work themselves to a double digit lead as a Paige Bullerman inside hoop was followed by a Hannah Bullerman trey, giving Adrian their biggest lead of the half at 28-18. Unfortunately, a pair of late Dragon turnovers led to four quick Edgerton fieldgoals, cutting the Adrian lead to six points at 28-22.
