Ervin Leslie Archer ~ Adrian, MN

 

A memorial service for Ervin Leslie Archer, age 81, of Adrian, MN, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the Adrian Funeral Home in Adrian, MN with visitation held one hour prior to the service.  There will be a luncheon served in the Adrian American Legion immediately following the service and military honors.  Ervin passed away at the MN Veterans Home in Luverne, MN on Sunday, July 8, 2018. He was born March 22, 1937, to William S. and Myrtle (Warner) Shadrick near Littlefork, MN.  Ervin was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith.  He completed his sophomore year of high school at Sherburn (MN) High School and then entered into the military serving in the U.S. Army. He later received his GED.  Ervin returned to southwest MN after receiving an honorable discharge.

On February 25, 1958, “Eddie”  married Grace Hemmesch in Forest City, IA, and they made their home in St. Peter, MN.  Through the years he worked in the grocery business, the railroad, with small appliances and computers. In 1972, the family moved to Adrian and Ervin opened Archer’s Rebuilders where he rebuilt alternators, starters and generators for both cars and tractors. He continued to operate the business until 1999, when at the age of 62, he retired and his son, Doug purchased the business. Ervin needed to keep busy and began working as an activities coordinator at New Dawn in Worthington, MN. He loved spending time with the residents and taking them to different events in the area. He retired a second time in 2008.

Ervin was a member of the St. Adrian Catholic Church and the Adrian American Legion.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and going to the casino. In December of 2016, he moved to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN.

Ervin is survived by his one daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Wolf of Adrian, MN; two sons, Douglas (Cindy) Archer of Adrian, MN and Tony (Jodie) Archer of Spring Valley, MN; five grandchildren, Ryan (Jessie), Gina (Robert), John (Brittany), Taylor (fiancé Brittany) and Ellie; three great grandchildren, Brandy, Jackson and Liam; one sister, Beverly (Larry) Sage of Topeka, KS; four brothers, Daniel “Archie”(Ruby) Archer of St. Peter, MN, Rev. Dennis (Dee) Archer of Lyons, OR, Dale Archer of Loveland, CO and Randy (Galyna) Archer of Loveland, CO; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; infant son, Mark; his parents and a sister, Patty Merriot.
