REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Chairperson Angie Boyenga called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.  The Board of Education opened the meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  A roll call revealed all members present.

Staff present:  John Willey, Darcey Groen, Lauren Stanton & Rachel Kramer.

Visitors:  Cody Henrichs, Brian Gacke, Korey & Dawn Meester.

A motion was made by Jenniges and seconded by Buntjer to approve the meeting agenda as presented. Motion carried.

Cody Henrichs, CEO Facilitator, presented information on the CEO program and answered questions from the School Board.

A motion was made by Buntjer and seconded by Kruse to approve the minutes of the regular meeting held on February 18, 2019 and the minutes of the special meeting held in Adrian on March 14, 2019. Motion carried.

The Board of Education reviewed the Student Activity Fund.

Becca Dreesen reported on these items for the Ellsworth PTO: Grandparents Day to be held on March 20 from 9-11, invites for the Father-Daughter dance will be sent out, Firemen’s Bingo and EPTO meal fundraiser will be April 12, next meeting is April 8.

Mr. Willey’s reported included information on student count, snowblower/mower purchase, update on Chromebooks/PC’s, student scheduling update, open meeting law information, legislation update on school days, gravel roads, choir to perform at Stampede game, band & choir contest & play performance.

The Board of Education reviewed the Treasurer’s report. A motion was made by Dreesen and seconded by Heikes to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Jenniges and seconded by Buntjer to approve the bills. A roll call vote was taken. The following voted in favor: Boyenga, Kruse, Buntjer, Jenniges, Dreesen & Heikes. The following voted against: None. Motion carried.

Mr. Willey presented the 2nd reading of Policy 104 School District Vision & Mission Statement. A motion was made by Dreesen and seconded by Jenniges to approve the 2nd reading of Policy 104. Motion carried.

A discussion took place regarding the athletic meeting with Adrian. A decision was made to move forward with the pairing agreement with football and cross country.

Mr. Willey presented information on snow days. A motion was made by Jenniges and seconded by Buntjer to make the last day of school for students on May 31st with teachers working until June 5th. Teachers will also make up extra time during the week. Motion carried.

The paraprofessionals and cooks will be allowed to work extra time if they come up with ideas of things to be done.

A discussion took place regarding a possible sale of property. A motion was made by Dreesen and seconded by Heikes to accept bids on the property and entertain offers with all expenses going to the buyer. A roll call vote was taken. The following voted in favor: Dreesen, Jenniges & Heikes. The following voted against: Boyenga, Kruse & Buntjer. With the tied vote, the motion fails.

A motion was made by Jenniges and seconded by Heikes to table the property sale discussion to a later date. Motion carried.

The Board discussed facility use agreements. This will be discussed more at the next meeting.

Mr. Willey discussed the option of adding additional technology time. A motion was made by Dreesen and seconded by Heikes to purchase additional technology time of 1 day/week. Motion carried.

Mr. Willey reported to the board that he has an Ag Instructor applicant. A motion was made by Heikes and seconded by Buntjer to move forward with an Ag Instructor instead of an Industrial Arts Instructor. Motion carried.

 

There being no further business Chairperson Angie Boyenga called for a motion to adjourn.  A motion was made by Kruse and seconded by Jenniges to adjourn.  Motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
