EHS Girls Suffer Losses to Begin Season

The Panther Ladies basketball team have a new coach for the 2016-17 season.  Former assistant boys basketball coach, Mike Palm, will be coaching the girls this year.  Palm has been with the Ellsworth school district since 2010 and looks forward to working with the girls.   

The Panthers finished in ninth place in the Red Rock Conference last year and hope to improve their record this season.  The Panthers have four starters returning from last year’s squad: Hannah Kramer, Sierra Smith, Ashlyn Meester and Devin Dreesen.

Luverne 62, Ellsworth 31

    The Panther girls opened the 2016-17 season facing the Luverne Cardinals.  The Cardinals defeated the girls 62-31.  The Luverne girls turned out to be to hot to handle starting off at the start.  The Panthers did bring the score within eight points in the first half.  For the Panthers Ashlyn Meester and Hannah Kramer led with eight points and Sierra Smith with six.

Ellsworth 46, W-WG 38

Ellsworth and Westbrook-Walnut Grove went into halftime, tied, but the Panthers prevailed with a big second half.

Devin Dreesen was the leading scorer for Ellsworth, while Hannah Kramer had 12.

Grace Woelber scored a game-high 18 points for W-WG, while Emma Woelber had 12.

Mariah Hicks pulled down 12 rebounds for the Chargers, while Avoree Bakken grabbed 11.

W-WG was 8-for-25 on two-point field goals attempts.

Fulda 66, Ellsworth 45

The Ellsworth Panthers faced Fulda in Ellsworth on December 6th.  Fulda had an 18-point halftime lead and finished on top by 21.

Devin Dreesen led Ellsworth with 18 points and Hannah Kramer had 10.

Fulda 32 59HL-O 68, Ellsworth 54

Panther girls traveled to HL-O to face the Wildcats.   Gabrielle Stenzel led Heron Lake-Okabena with 22 points as they defeated Ellsworth 68-54.

For the Panthers Sierra Smith scored 21 points  Devin Dreesen scored 10 and Kallie Chapa scored nine.
