The Dragon wrestlers traveled to Jackson on Saturday, to participate in the Pizza Ranch Invitational. Four of the thirteen Varsity wrestlers placed at the tournament, with Scot Edwards being the lone champion at 285. Overall, the Dragons finished 7th as a team out of 18 teams.
120- Reese Morrison lost his first two matches of the day, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.
126- Breyer Hieronimus would lose his first match of the day, but went on to pin Quin Horstman from West Lyon in 1:09 and pinned Dylan Withers from Jackson in 3:14, to advance to the 5th place match. Hieronimus would ultimately take home 6th place after losing by a 5-2 decision.
138- Logan Sherer started his day beating Cole Wilcox from Sioux City East in a 9-1 decision. He would lose his next match to Keilyn March of Canton, before beating Tyler Kinger from Waseca in a 7-3 decision. Sherer would end his day losing a 8-1 decision, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.
145- Logan Taylor and Isaac Bullerman would both wrestle at 145 for the Dragons during the tournament. Isaac Bullerman would lose his first match by a 4-2 decision. He then went on to beat Mason Schutz from Worthington by fall in :53. Isaac would forfeit his last match, resulting in the end of his day.
Logan Taylor started his day winning by fall over Agro Gushwa from NRHE in 4:56. Taylor would then lose a 7-2 decision to Jonah Gruenes of Minneota. After receiving a forfeit, Taylor would end up losing to Payton Handevidt of Jackson in a 3-0 decision, ending his day.
152- Axel Martinez would lose his first two matches of the day, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.
160- Quentin Wolf started his day defeating Sander Ludeman of LCWM by fall in 1:50. Wolf would wind up losing a 5-2 decision against Kaden Laubach of Canton in the next round. Facing Esteban Sandoval of Windom/Mountain Lake, Wolf would win this match by fall in 4:26. Wolf would then win a 7-6 decision in the final seconds of the match, before losing his final match, leading to a 6th place finish.
170- Cam Wieneke won his first match by fall in 3:16, but would end up losing his next two matches, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.
182- Preston Nelson won a pair of decisions to start his day, winning 7-3 over Cole Sanow of Minneota and 9-4 over Hunter Hills of Aitkin. Nelson would lose a 7-1 decision in the semifinals, sending him to fight for 3rd place. In the 3rd place match, Nelson would beat Thomas Lais of Worthington 7-2, securing 3rd place on the day.
195- Roberto Hernandez would lose his first two matches of the day, resulting in him being eliminated from the tournament.
220- Jaren Winselman and Max Lehmann would wrestle at 220 for the Dragons in the tournament. Winselman won by fall in 4:15 defeating Lee Drahota of Jackson in the first round of action, before losing in the next two rounds. This resulted in his elimination from the tournament.
Max Lehmann would lose his first two matches of the day, resulting in his elimination from the tournament.
285- Scot Edwards would not hesitate, as he would ultimately spend 2:12 on the mat as he pinned his way to the title at heavyweight. Scot would end up pinning Makota Misgen of NRHE, Josh Larsen of Harrisburg, and Jackson Esping of Minneota, to get to the championship match. The championship round would result in a rematch from last year’s tournament and would wind up in the same result, as Scot Edwards was able to defeat Jordan Ver Meer by fall in :52, leading to a 1st place finish.
Scot Edwards was named the Varsity Outstanding Wrestler after going 3-0, winning all his matches by pins. David Anaya was named the JV OW after earning a 2nd place finish in the JV portion of the tournament.
