The Adrian wrestlers traveled to Montrose to take part in a quad featuring a trio of SD schools, McCook Central-Montrose, Dell Rapids, and West Central. The Dragons mustered a win in the second round, as they defeated Dell Rapids by a 42-34 margin.
MCM pounded the Dragons in the opening dual of the evening, as Adrian was able to win 3 matches, with two of the wins coming via forfeit. Dylan Gyberg and Scot Edwards accepted forfeits, while Chandler Combs was able to defeat his opponent by decision.
In round two, Dell Rapids jumped out to a 4-0 lead, winning the 106-pound match by major decision. Preston Nelson came from behind to earn a fall over Canyon Lowman in the 113-pound bout to give the Dragons a 6-4 lead. The Quarriers regained the lead with a fall and decision in the 120 and 126 pound matches, respectively. Chandler Combs earned a fall as time expired bringing the Dragons to within one point at 132 pounds. A 9-8 victory for Max Lemer over Jaime Castaneda extended the Quarrier lead to 16-12. Senior captain, Marshall Taylor, put his team in front with a first period fall over Tristan Weinzetl at 145 pounds. Adrian forfeited the next two matches, while Dell Rapids forfeited to the Dragons at 170 pounds. Senior captains, Dylan Gyberg and Mitchell Wagner pinned their opponents in the first period to bring the dual to within reach with two weight classes to go. The Dragons forfeited at 220 pounds, making the team score 36-34, Dragons, with one match to go. Scot Edwards finished the dual and sealed the Dragon victory with a quick fall in the HWT bout, giving Adrian the 42-34 win.
West Central was able to pull out the dual victory 36-29 in the final round of the night. West Central won the first match, by a 10-2 major decision. Preston Nelson battled back and was able to earn a takedown in OT to defeat Carter Heumiller 7-5. West Central forfeited the next 3 matches to Brent Hokeness, Logan Sherer, and Chandler Combs to give the Dragons a 20-4 lead heading into the 138 pound match. Five consecutive victories by West Central put them up by a 30-20 margin with four matches to go. Dylan Gyberg earned a takedown in the waning seconds to earn a 5-4 decision over Jared Mettler in the 182-pound match. A double forfeit at 195, Dragon forfeit at 220, and a West Central forfeit at 285 ended the dual.
Dylan Gyberg was named the varsity OW, with a 3-0 record on the night including a forfeit, pin, and decision over the course of the evening.
