The Section 3A cross country meet was another example of the type of fall Southwest Minnesota has had this year. Rain and a cloudy afternoon were once again the conditions that runners were faced with. In Section 3A, 24 teams traveled to Luverne to race for their chances at the state meet and the Adrian Dragons were looking to have some of their best races of the year despite the gloomy day.
The boy’s 5000 meter run was the first race on the day. Senior Cole Domeyer was competing in his first section cross country meet. Domeyer got off to a strong start in the race. He blazed through the course in a personal best time of 22:23 in the 146 runner field, beating his previous time by nearly 90 seconds.
The girl’s 5000 meter race was next to take the course. The Dragons had five runners competing on the day. Junior Moriah Bullerman led the Dragons with a time of 21:23, placing 26th overall in the 123 runner field. The second runner for the Dragons was sophomore Gracia Elias, who had a season best time of 23:13. Freshman Hiltyn Heitkamp was not far behind Elias, running the 5000 meter course in 23:33, which is a season best time for her. The fourth scorer for the Dragons was Alysha Wieneke, who had a great race, running a personal best time of 23:52. Senior Halle Heitkamp was the fifth scorer for the Dragons and clocked a time of 25:44 due to a strong finish the last 100 meters. The Lady Dragons had one of their best team finishes of the year, placing 11th in the meet.
Congratulations to the Dragons in this past cross country season. Your attitude and effort were next to none. Your coaches are proud of everything you have been able to accomplish this year!
