On Saturday, September 10, the Dragons traveled to Westbrook to compete in a tournament. The Dragons faced New Ulm Cathedral in the first match of the day. The Dragons started out strong by getting up 5-1; however, the Dragons couldn’t keep up at the end and lost the first set 22-25. With the loss of momentum, the Dragons came out slow the second match and were unable to catch up. They lost 15-25.
Starting out 0-1 for the day, the Dragons were determined to get back into the tournament. With the right mindset, they battled it out with Springfield in the first set. Great defense by the Dragons kept it close, but Springfield’s hard hitters edged the Dragons, they lost 21-25. The Dragons were unable to keep the match close in the second set and lost 7-25.
With a break to regroup and reenergize after starting 0-2, the Dragons came out swinging against Fulda. With a loss in the first set 21-25, the Dragons came back hard in the second set and shut down Fulda 25-12. The third and final set was favored by Fulda as the Dragons struggled with serving. Fulda was able to win 13-15.
