Dragons take first game VS Mt. Lake – Comfrey

The Dragons used a fine pitching performance from Ian Stamer to get the win in game one of a double header Tuesday at Mountain Lake.

Brent Hokeness got a hit in the top of the first inning, but the Dragons were unable to bring him home.  In the bottom of the first, Stamer walked two Wolverine batters with one out.  However, he was able to strike out the next two to keep the game at zeros.

The Dragons got a lead off single in the second from Skylar Polzine, but they were unable to score in the inning.  The Wolverines got a lead off single as well, before two strike-outs and a ground ball ended the inning.

Landon Rogers doubled in the third, but again the Dragons were unable to score.  It was much of the same for Mountain Lake in the third, as they got a hit but stranded the runner on base.  After three innings of play there was no score.

Adrian got another double in the fourth, this time from Jeffrey Cauwels.  The Dragons stranded him at second to end the inning.  The Wolverines got two straight hits to start the bottom of the fourth.  Stamer then buckled down and got the next three batters in order to keep the game scoreless.

The Dragons finally got on the board in the fifth inning.  Stamer started the inning with a single.  Grant Jansma then hit into a fielder’s choice that Stamer beat out at second.  Rogers singled Stamer home to get the Dragons a run.  Noah Reyne worked a walk after Jansma was out at home on a failed suicide squeeze.  Hokeness then singled in Rogers and Reyne scored on a ground out by Lance Luettel.  The Dragons brought in Rogers to pitch the bottom of the fifth.  Rogers worked in and out of trouble as he stranded the bases loaded.  After five innings of play the Dragons led 3-0.

The Dragons went down in order in the sixth inning.  Luettel toed the mound for Adrian in the sixth inning.  Luettel allowed one run but stranded the tying run at second to end the game and earn the save.

The Dragons were led at the plate by Rogers (2B) and Hokeness who each had two hits and an RBI. Cauwels added a double while Polzine and Stamer had one hit each.  Rogers, Reyne, and Stamer each scored a run while Luettel added an RBI.

Stamer pitched through four innings to get the win on the mound.  He allowed five hits, zero runs, and struck out six batters.  Landon Rogers threw an inning, not allowing a run.  Luettel got the save by allowing one earned run in one inning of work.

The Dragons move to 7-8 (6-3 conference) on the season.

Dragons sweep Mt. Lake-Comfrey

With a 5-0 win the second game over Mountain Lake – Comfrey, the Dragons grabbed a share of the conference title.  Noah Reyne was outstanding on the mound, pitching a shutout.

The Dragons were the home team in the second game of the double header, despite playing in Mountain Lake.  Reyne got things off on the right foot as he retired the side in order in the first.  The Dragons got a hit from Brent Hokeness in the bottom half of the inning, but nothing more.

Reyne again retired the side in order in the top of the second. Skylar Polzine and Brandon Schnoor each reached base on balls in the second inning.  With two outs, Grant Jansma singled home pinch runner Skylar Dingmann and Schnoor to give the Dragons a two run lead.  Rogers added a single before the Wolverines got out of the inning.  After two innings of play, the Dragons led 2-0.

Mountain Lake was able to get two base runners in the third on a hit and a walk.  Reyne kept them off the board however to keep the lead at two. The Dragons tacked on a third run after Hokeness (walk) scored on an error.  After three innings, Adrian 3, ML-C 0.

Reyne settled back in the fourth and retired the Wolverines in order. Grant Jansma singled with one out, which Rogers followed with a double to put runners on second and third.  Jansma scored on a successful suicide squeeze by Noah Reyne.  Rogers scored on the throw to first to give the Dragons a five run lead.

Reyne set down Mountain Lake in order again in the fifth.  The Dragons were unable to tack on to their lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Mountain Lake had two batters reach base in the sixth on a walk and an error.  Reyne allowed neither to score to give the Dragons the 5-0 win.

Rogers (2B R RBI) and Jansma (RBI) led the Dragons at the plate with two hits each.  Hokeness added a hit and run scored while Noah Reyne drove in two runs. Tristan Thier also scored a run in the win.

Reyne pitched a one-hit shutout for the win.  He struck out three batters and walked two.

The Dragons share the title of Conference Champs with the MCC Rebels.  The Dragons finished the regular season with a 8-8 record including a 7-3 record in conference play.
