The Adrian wrestlers traveled to Jackson last Saturday to take part in the Annual Pizza Ranch Invitational. The Dragons had two out of eight varsity wrestlers place in the tournament, as Logan Taylor placed 3rd and Preston Nelson brought home the 6th place medal.
106 – Breyer Hieronimus lost both of his matches, eliminating him from the tournament.
113 – Logan Taylor worked his way to an 8-3 decision over Ryan Hirschkorn of Harrisburg in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis. In the semis, Taylor squared off against Adam Allard of West Sioux. Allard earned a 2nd period fall over the Adrian sophomore, putting Logan in the 3rd place bout where he faced Eric Carrasco of Minneota. Taylor wrestled an excellent match earning a takedown in the first period to take an early lead. He was able to ride out Carrasco in the 3rd period to earn a 2-1 victory and 3rd place in the tourney at his respective weight class.
120 – Brandon Combs earned a fall in his first match of the day, pinning Brenden Blakney of Harrisburg in 5:19. Combs lost his next two matches by fall, eliminating him from the tournament.
132– Brent Hokeness earned a decision in his first bout, defeating Austin Knickrehm from St. James 7-5. Hokeness lost his next two matches by fall, eliminating him from the tournament.
138 – Preston Nelson finished in 6th place, going 2-2. Nelson lost his first match to Lay K Paw of Worthington by a 7-5 margin. He then battled back through the wrestlebacks earning a pair of victories, defeating William Norton of Waseca by fall in 5:44 and by defeating Landon Hoppe of St. James by a 3-1 margin. Nelson lost his 5th place match to Blake Reiss of Minneota.
145 – Chandler Combs earned an 11-4 decision in his first match by defeating Erik Morales Banda of St. James. Combs lost his next two matches by fall, eliminating him from the tourney before the medal round.
152 – Jaime Castaneda lost both of his matches by fall, eliminating him from the tourney.
182 – Beau Bullerman went 2-2 in the tournament, as he earned a pair of falls. Bullerman came from behind to win by fall over Chad Erickson of NRHEG in 4:50. Eli Edlin of JCC earned a major decision over Beau in the quarters, putting him in the wrestlebacks. Bullerman pinned his West Sioux opponent in 1:44 to advance in the wrestlebacks. He lost by fall in the consolation semis in 52 seconds to Avery Northquest of LCWM ending his tournament run.
Logan Taylor was named the varsity Outstanding Wrestler, as he went 2-1 on the day, finishing 3rd. Isaac Bullerman was named the JV OW, as he won the 120 pound JV bracket.
The next action for the Dragons will be December 14th when they host the Pipestone Arrows then they will head to Sioux Falls on Saturday for the Washington High School Tournament.
