Dragon Linksters both in 3rd place

At the end of Round 1 of the 2018 Section 3A Golf Tournament, the girls and boys golf teams are in third place and will advance to the second round of tournament play.  In the current format, the top 4 teams at the end of the first round qualify for round 2.  For the first time ever, both of the Adrian teams will move on and golf for the right to advance to the state golf tournament.  The girls have been in this position in previous seasons, but this is a first for the boys program.

The Adrian girls turned in a team total of 444, just 8 strokes behind 2nd place Hendricks.  The MCC girls have a commanding lead at 400  Alexia Kemper carded a 93 and is currently in 2nd place.  Any scores posted in the first round will carry over to round 2 for a cumulative score for the 36 hole tournament.  Annika Elias (116), Josi Altman (117), and Gracia Elias (118) were a part of the 444 team total.  Taya Elias (124) and Madeline Wagner (126) golfed for the Dragons also.

Competition on the boys side of the tournament was very closely contested.  The Dragon boys sit in 3rd with a total of 399.  The difference between 2nd and 6th place was a mere 11 strokes, which goes to show that every shot is an important shot on the golf course.  Seventh grader, Brock Henning, led the team with a round of 96 and was closely followed by Mitchell Veld’s 97.  Contributing to the team total was Brady Henning (101) and Landon Runia (105).  Easton Braun (110) and John Christians (125) were the other tournament team members.

The Dragons will tee it up for Round 2 on Wednesday, May 30th at 9:00 a.m. at the Worthington Country Club.  The girls will go off the #1 tee, while the boys will go off on the back side on #10.  Good luck to the Dragons as they golf for the right to move on to the State Tournament.
